Ask someone to describe Santa Cruz County in a few words. There are a lot of different phrases that you might hear depending upon who you ask: "surfing culture", "agricultural community" "tourist area" "university town" . But one phrase is almost universally used; "caring community". We here at United Way are continously inspired by the people and organizations of this county with their open hearts and ready hands. Quite simply, we could not do our work without this community-wide support.
There are two organizations especially whose leadership in the community and support of the United Way have been consistently outstanding -- Graniterock and Dominican Hospital - and we honor them for all they have done and continue to do.

Stewardship
refers to a responsibility to take care of something one doesn't own.
There are many ways to do that - through time, treasure and talent.
The employees and management of Graniterock embody the philosophy that
every person has a responsibility to their community - for their own
good and the common good.
Graniterock recognizes that there is effort involved with stewardship
and they are willing to put in hours of work to support our campaign
and to educate and encourage employees to give. Graniterock employee
combined pledges consistently provide our largest donation. These donations are a significant
contributor to our work.
Graniterock also vigorously encourages their employees to volunteer their time in support of their community.
We are honored to have Graniterock as a corporate partner - a partner
who has a stated company value of servcie and stewardship for their
community

Dominican Hospital is a major supporter of the work of the United Way.
They are not only a significant investor in the Community Assessment
Project, they contribute hours of time in the design, writing, and
publication of the CAP Summary Report which they then mail to every
household in the county. It is safe to say that this report would not
be the incredible resource it is without their dedication.
Dominican Hospital has taken a leadership role with Healthy Kids
(children's healthcare coverage) along with a financial commitment to
cover the cost of insurance premiums.
In the past two years, Dominican's campaign has grown by almost 4 times in total dollars pledged.
We are so grateful for Dominican's ongoing and committed support of our
United Way - support in terms of dollars and hours of donated time and
talent.
