POWER Project

The POWER (Pajaro Ohlone Wishes for Education Resources) Project is focused on obtaining educational materials for the children and teachers at Pajaro Middle School and Ohlone Elementary School.

Public schools today are run on very tight budgets without extra money for new books, art supplies, science teaching aids  -- and parent associations raise money to help fill  the gap.  At Pajaro Middle and Ohlone Elementary Schools, the parents are low-income agricultural workers and do not have discretionary dollars to be used on teaching materials.

Women in Philanthropy worked with the principals and teachers at both schools to develop a WISH LIST of educational materials that the teachers need in order to most effectively teach their kids. Some of the needs can be met by "gently used" items as long as they are clean and functions

How is the Project Doing?
The POWER project was launched in October 2008 and by the end of the 2008-2009 school year has delivered over six van loads of purchased and donated goods to these two schools.  Donations have come from people all around the county and have included paper, paints, crayons, videos, computers, 3-ring binders, cameras, science kits and many, many books.

To date, POWER has delivered over $18,000 worth of goods.  The children and teachers from both schools have been thrilled and touched by these donations.
Interested in Participating?

This is a way to make an immediate difference in the lives of kids in two very under-resourced schools.  If you are interested in donating either money or  "gently used" goods to this project, contact Anne Cawley at the United Way. (Note, we are only able to accept items as detailed on the WISH LIST)
