ALL INTERESTED PERSONS WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND FAMILIES ARE ENCOURAGED to attend this four-hour workshop addressing cultural competency in the work of preventing child abuse and neglect. The four main objectives of the workshop are to:

1) explore cultural misunderstandings and ways to a develop deeper awareness of how these influence our work with others;

2) learn interventions and strategies that reflect cultural sensitivity and understanding;

3) develop strength-based interventions and responses when working with at-risk families and children;

4) develop ways to build on assets in order to nurture healthy families, build safer communities, and prevent child abuse.
 

Breakfast will be available at 8:30am and the seminar will begin promptly at 9:00am.

Jaime Molina is the Prevention and Early Intervention Coordinator for Santa Cruz County Mental Health Services where he provides education and training in family strengthening and coordinates service-sites in school districts, shelters, and other programs throughout the county. Jaime also implemented a youth leadership curriculum for boys and developed a girl-specific training curriculum focusing on self-esteem, boundaries, and leadership. He works with SCMHS staff members to ensure that cultural competence standards are integrated throughout the organization.

This course meets the qualification for 4 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs and LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. CEUs available for Licensed Therapists and Social Workers are provided by the Family Service Agency of the Central Coast (PCE49).
