Growing up in Los Angeles County, Oscar experienced firsthand the impact of programs supported by United Way of Greater Los Angeles. These experiences shaped his deep commitment to service and community power. Today, as a Board Member of United Way of Santa Cruz County, he gives back to the very network that once supported his family, working to ensure that future generations have the same opportunities to thrive.
A strategic and innovative leader, Oscar is passionate about advancing health equity through storytelling, resource mobilization, and systems transformation. His vision is to replace inequitable structures with culturally humble, community-rooted systems that promote belonging and access for all.
In his role as Development and Communications Director at Santa Cruz Community Health, Oscar leads efforts to strengthen the organization’s financial sustainability and visibility. He cultivates donor relationships, secures vital grants, and develops communication strategies that elevate community voices and champion health justice. Previously, he worked in quality improvement and population health, implementing initiatives that reduced disparities and advanced patient-centered care.
Oscar’s commitment to equity extends beyond his career. He serves on the Santa Cruz County Latino Affairs Commission, chairs the Emerging Leaders Circle, and contributes to the Dominican Hospital Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee for the Family Residency Program.
As a first-generation college graduate, Oscar’s journey reflects his unwavering dedication to building a more just, inclusive, and equitable future for all communities. Oscar resides in Watsonville with his wife and their two beloved dogs. Outside of his professional work, he enjoys adventure travel, discovering new food experiences, and finding joy in the simple moments with those he loves most.
