Jovenes SANOS Youth Take a Major Step in the We Belong Project

       

Jovenes SANOS partnered with UCSC Sociology Department Professor Leslie for the second phase of the We Belong: Collaboration for Community Engaged Research and Immigrant Justice project. This project was designed for Jovenes SANOS will have the opportunity to partake in free research training workshops to facilitate community research, engaging South County (Watsonville/ Pajaro Valley) community members and agencies to provide input on social determinants of health and immigrant justice needs.

Currently, Jovenes SANOS youth are analyzing their community through a photovoice mapping project where youth will capture locations in South County that represent belonging vs. not belonging, providing a youth perspective on areas for growth and need. Jovenes SANOS Representatives in DataShare Santa Cruz County- Data Committee- Jovenes SANOS youth will represent Jovenes SANOS during the Data Committee of Data Share SCC, providing a youth perspective on data points/indicators, community data representation and outreach efforts. This is a major step in providing platforms for youth to provide their thought leadership, and practice decision making for community shifts.
